To convert the old Rileys Snooker Hall to a two screen venue
Last week Justine Greening MP attended the Plaza Group’s public meeting, to discuss the future of the former Rileys Snooker Hall at 227-231 Wimbledon Park Road, Southfields.
One year on from their first meeting, the Plaza Group outlined their proposals to a packed Saint Barnabas Church. The Plaza Group’s plans include a two screen cinema and to adapt the building to provide a café and restaurant, theatrical space, independent film production facilities and a creative arena for the local and wider community.
Along with local Councillors, Justine spoke with many local residents who attended and it is clear that the community is fully behind the concept of a cinema and theatre.
Currently, the site is classified as D2 use (Assembly and leisure) and this site is the only substantial D2 building in Southfields. Indigo planning consultants, who are representing the owners of the site, are expected to make a planning application imminently for a residential led mixed development which could lead to part of the site being used for retail. To prevent this, it is important that the entire D2 space of the building is protected and Justine is encouraging all residents to contact her so we can let Indigo know how we feel as a local community.
Justine said: “I spoke at the residents' meeting when the idea of the Southfield Plaza was launched and it was great to see so many residents a year later committed to have a cinema back in Southfields. The Southfield Plaza Steering Group has worked incredibly hard on their business proposal and I am really looking forward to working with residents as their plans develop to restore the building to its former use as a cinema.”
“It is important the community has a say about the shape of this development and we must tell Indigo how we feel. I am encouraging all residents who support these plans to contact me at email@example.com o I can make sure Indigo are aware of all the issues raised.”
