National Vegetarian Week 21 - 27 May 2012
Wakey, wakey rise and shine and make sure National Vegetarian Week 2012 is in your calendar. From 21- 27 May the UK is invited to throw caution to the wind and join the Vegetarian Society in a celebration of all things vibrantly veggie.
To help everyone focus, this year’s extravaganza of veggie vitality will celebrate the most important meal of the day – breakfast. An essential part of everyone’s day whether you are veggie or not.
It’s quite some time since the BLT was the most sophisticated sandwich in town so what better way to mark National Vegetarian Week than by taking a bite of the banging new triple B-LT: the Baked Bean Banger, lettuce and tomato relish butty?
Liz O’Neill, Head of Communications at the Vegetarian Society said, “The Triple B-LT stands up as a breakfast butty where others fail and the Baked Bean Banger is certainly a mouthful. These seven different breakfasts will help everyone to get off to a good start, realise how much veggie food they already eat and help to tackle head on the notion that life isn’t worth living without a bacon butty.”
Liz continued “National Vegetarian Week is a great vehicle for many sectors - there’s a myriad of opportunities to delve into. It lends itself to the topics of health, wellbeing, the environment and of course food. This year’s breakfast theme will help everyone to get off to a good start, realise how much veggie food they already eat and help to tackle head on the notion that life isn’t worth living without a bacon butty.”
Now in its twentieth year National Vegetarian Week (NVW) is the annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to get involved in NVW and you don’t have to be a devotee of breakfasts. Restaurants, schools, libraries, caterers, shops, manufacturers and individuals can find out more at www.nationalvegetarianweek.org or call 0161 925 2000.
London-based group Vegan Campaigns is inviting Londoners to take the Vegan Pledge - eliminating all animal foods from their diets - for one month. Participants will be invited to two free events at a venue in central London at the beginning and end of their vegan month on Saturday 19th May and Saturday 16th June 2012. These two inspiring days will include cookery demos, nutrition talks, a film, basic health advice from a vegan GP and dietician and delicious vegan food samples. Ongoing support throughout the month will also be provided. And it's all completely free! Anyone who would like to register for the Vegan Pledge or find out more information can visit www.vegancampaigns.org.uk, or call 07890 136663.
