Sports and leisure facilities to get an upgrade
Families and young people living in Earlsfield are helping to shape a series of proposals to improve sports and leisure facilities at a popular local neighbourhood green space.
Following on from an initial round of public consultations held at the end of the summer, the council and its parks contractor Enable Leisure and Culture have drawn up plans to improve the amenities at Garratt Park.
This has helped set priorities for new investment in this neighbourhood green space, especially in its playground. Further consultation will soon be staged to identify the types of play equipment local families would like to see provided.
The consultation also revealed that local residents would like to see outdoor gym equipment in the park and upgrades to the ball games area. Both options are now being explored.
Garratt Park currently offers play equipment for toddlers and older children, plus a table tennis table, bicycle circuit, full size grass football pitch and a hardstanding ball games area.
The council’s director of environment and community services Paul Chadwick said, “Garratt Park is an important and popular green oasis in this part of Earlsfield and while there are already some good facilities we think there is room for improvement.
“We hope residents will take part in our next round of consultation and help shape future plans for this valuable green space.”
Funding for further improvements could come from the Wandsworth Local Fund (WLF), which comprises money the council has levied on developers to help pay for community and neighbourhood infrastructure improvements across the borough.
