'Horrific attack' of 13-year-old on Tooting Bec Common
Detectives from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command are appealing for information following the rape of a teenage girl in Wandsworth.
The incident happened on Thursday (November 12th) at around 7pm in woods at West Drive.
The victim, a 13-year-old girl, was walking along Tooting Bec Common towards Tooting Stadium when she was approached by a man who blocked her path, forcing her into the woods at West Drive.
The man raped the victim and then made off along Furzedown Road towards Church Lane.
The man is described as white, aged approximately 20 and around 6ft tall with a slim build, dark eyes and clean shaven. He wore a tracksuit top and bottoms with three white stripes down the sides, black trainers and a black woolly hat with black gloves.
Detective Inspector Keith Ward, Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command said, "This was an horrific attack on a vulnerable young girl who was forced by this man into a secluded area and raped. The victim was able to provide a very good description of her attacker and we are keen to catch him before he has the opportunity to strike again.
"Additional patrols will be taking place in the area where the incident occurred. This is to provide reassurance and ongoing support is being provided to the victim by specially-trained officers.
"We would ask people in the area to remain vigilant and to take sensible precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially who is around you. Always dial 999 if you feel in danger."
Anyone with information which could assist the investigation, or who can identify the man is asked to contact the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command on 0208 721 4106, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.
