A local MP has alerted Wandsworth residents that many locals will be eligible for Cold Weather Payments.

Battersea MP, Jane Ellison said:
“Many parts of the country have suffered in the last week or so from extreme cold weather and conditions.  I have been advised that eligible residents in SW4, SW8, SW11, SW12, SW15, SW16 and SW18 are entitled to receive a Cold Weather payment from the Government.

"These payments are designed to help people who receive certain income-related benefits with their increased energy costs during a period when the temperature is recorded or forecast to be an average zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days.  The Cold Weather payments will be triggered automatically for those eligible, so there is no need to apply for the payment.

"I hope that these payments from the Government will go some way towards helping those in need with increased energy costs during these very cold spells.”
