I'm afraid that, on my return from 2 weeks away, I was greeted by several neighbours eager to tell me that a cyclist had ridden into a pedestrian on the footpath opposite my house, having ignored the 'no cycling' signs. All were celebrating the fact that it was the cyclist who ended up in hospital, rather than the pedestrian. The fact that the neighbours were celebrating is an indication of how often they feel themselves or their children to be at risk by louts, whether wearing lycra or not, riding at speed with no consideration for others.
When I challenged a cyclist going through a red traffic light when 2 people were crossing on the pedestrian light, he called back that he was colour blind. It is that sort of rude arrogance which make people like me start to think that there should be more action by the police.
