OK, I went over the source slowly and found the url!! Now I am off here for the day.

Thank you for finding my mistake Richard, I don't feel so bad now, I'll just pay more attention! I've been wondering how you check these things out. I tried the right click as you said, all I could read was a lot of letters and signs! I could not see anything that showed the url I posted. I saw "mystery picture" that is about all I recognized. I'll look for another picture - maybe in Cambridge, anyone familiar with that area?

Audrey, you left off the quote sign at the end of the URL!  If a pic doesn't appear, it's worth doing a right-click on a blank part of the message and selecting View Source (in IE at any rate).  Then you can have a look at the img command and see if there is anything wrong with it.Well done, Jim, for identifying the place.  St Clement Danes is a lovely church.

Jim, you're asking for trouble if you quote text that includes a "<" sign!  On my browser, your quote appeared as       (There's nofollowed by the square-triangle-circle thingy, which means that the browser thought that an image was coming but couldn't understand it.If you want to display < or > in a message on this Forum, you have to type &amp;lt; or &amp;gt;    [N.B. Do not try to quote this paragraph in another message!]By the way, both the road picture and the map display OK on my screen (using IE 6.0).

"I raise my hat to you re your answer.. the London Bridge location."Thanks, Jim.  It helped that I was there only last week, as it happened.  But I've just remembered that memories of that location run very deep.  My old school (St Dunstan's College at Catford) was connected with the church of St Dunstan-in-the-East in the City.  On St Dunstan's Day every year, the whole school travelled in a specially chartered train from Catford Bridge to London Bridge for a service in Southwark Cathedral (as St Dunstan's church was bombed in the war).  But the cadet force went on to Cannon Street, and marched back in uniform over London Bridge led by the bugles and drums of the band.  It was a great privilege in the 1950s to lead a platoon over London Bridge (the old one), past the place where Audrey's daughter took that photograph.  Just imagine the effect on the traffic if it was done today!

Peter:Here is that map again. I'm using Firefox at the moment..and the map picture is stored on FREEIMGHOSTING with which you are familiar.This version of the map picture is large in size..848 x 1200 and is 717k  and untrimmed or straightened up!Hope the picture arrives instantly this time.

Audrey, just to prove me wrong.  It has worked perfectly on this topic.  I have reloaded Firefox again and I still can not see the map or your picture.I cannot say you for sure but I wonder if the problem is to do with security levels.  Time will tell.

Richard and Audrey.I have noticed that on new posts you cannot see pictures, only on replies is that followed.  But there is a but.  I still cannot see Jim's picture of a map or Audrey's picture, taken from the top of bus.  When you have a square border with a dot and a triangle and a square, what does that mean?

Thank you Richard, you nailed it re taken from top of a bus!! This was taken by my daughter in February this year from top deck of open bus. I was just wondering where it was, obviously she didn't know when questioned later. It is a wonder she got any pictures that day, she about froze to death!!  Thanks I'll send her your map.There are other pictures I'd like to know the location so look out for more questions!!

It's taken from the south end of London Bridge, looking towards the south-east.  The road on the left is Duke Street Hill. The railway bridge with the Budweiser advert carries the lines from London Bridge Station* (hidden on the left) to Cannon Street and Charing Cross.  The road under the bridge leads to the station forecourt.  The tower block on the far right is Guy's Hospital.The photographer's position (on the top deck of a bus?) is arrowed on the map at http://tinyurl.com/8ubl8* London's first railway terminus, opened 1836.

That picture was a pleasant surprise Peter...and using MF it appeared immediately..so I was lucky.  By the way I had logged of all other Forums and sites like BBC etc..so my cyberspace channels were clear.The Post Office Tower was a splendid sight when it was being constructed in the 1960's and the increasing height to over 600 feet was record breaking in those days. I recall standing near the foot of the Tower and watching the crane on top.When it opened to the public..one accended in a high speed lift to the viewing platforms and of course the view was mind-blowing. There was a revolving restaurant there too...operated by Billy Butlins if I recall correctly.My old boss at Incomes Data Services Ltd,at that time in Great Portland Street took the whole company to the restaurant one evening as we had reached a sales target. The  dining tables on the outer edge moved around a full circle slowly...whilst the serving tables etc remain stationary!I have the old brochure somewhere.So Happy 40th to the BT Tower.PS:

"What is it?"It's the Post Office Tower in London, now known as the BT Tower, I believe.  What is odd is that when I go to Peter's post, the image doesn't appear.  If I then extract the URL and put it in my browser's address bar, or even embed Peter's img command in a test page, the photo is displayed without a problem.  And once it's in my cache, it will also appear if I go back to Peter's post.
