Wandsworth Failing on Localism and Planning Procedures

An open letter from Putney Society, Wandsworth Society, the Clapham Junction Action Group and Friends of Putney Common has been sent to David Cameron about Wandsworth Council's failures in planning procedure and the development of localism.Too many examples of 'bad practise' in recent years. The temperature of this debate seems to have been raised by some members of the residents' groups. Accusations have been made against Councillors, planning officers and members of the public volunteering on committees. People who are just doing their job or have given up their time for free have been subject to some very unfriendly comments. My view that this has a lot more to do with factionalism within the local Conservative party than people genuinely wanting to improve things in the borough.

If the Council have lost the confidence of these societies which exist primarily to protect the local area and are run by volunteers, it is a sign that something is seriously wrong. There are powerful outside interest wanting to completely reshape the place where we live and if this is not done in the interest of residents then we will be stuck with the consequences.
