Making Putney Safer For Pedestrians

Putney MP joined Living Streets Community Street Audit in Putney

Yesterday local MP, Justine Greening, joined Living Streets, a charity that works to improve pedestrian areas and safety, on a Community Street Audit covering the area around Putney High Street.

On the walk about Justine and Living Streets looked at how Putney High Street could be improved to increase local walking, encourage visits to local shops and to make the open space more accessible to people on foot.

Living Streets has audited walking routes in major cities, busy town centres and residential areas working with groups of stakeholders, including local residents and businesses, to identify improvements to help create a safe, attractive and enjoyable environment for all users.

Justine said: "The Living Streets audit of Putney High Street was really interesting and there were some good suggestions on how to improve the high street for pedestrians such as removing unnecessary street furniture and improving pedestrian crossings."

She continued: " I know Putney High Street can feel very crowded at times so it’s important to look at ways to make the high street more accessible and keep pedestrians safe.”
