In residential areas across the borough
Councillors have given their backing to the introduction of 11 new 20mph zones in residential areas across Wandsworth.
Residents in the 11 areas had voted in favour of lower speed limits in their streets when they were consulted by the town hall earlier this year. These consultations had been prompted by a series of petitions from local people.
Councillors in Wandsworth have said that wherever there is support for a 20mph limit, they will write to every household and formally invite people in the area to have their say.
The neighbourhoods that will now have the new lower speed limits are:
Highways engineers have already implemented lower speed limits across large parts of Balham and Tooting following a conclusive ballot of local people. Around 12,000 households in Furzedown and Bedford wards are now benefitting from speed restrictions that came into effect in April.
Transport spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said: “We have listened carefully to residents and businesses in these 11 areas, and having heard what they say, are now bringing in the lower speed limits they want implemented in their neighbourhoods.”
Residents of the Alton estate in Roehampton were also consulted but the results here were inconclusive, and so a 20mph zone is not being introduced there at this stage.
