Missed The Secondary School Of Your Choice?

ARK Putney Academy has some places still available to pupils

As parents find out which secondary school place their child has been allocated today, ARK Putney Academy near Putney Heath is advising that they still have places available.

The school, which is rated ‘good’ in all categories by Ofsted, has seen the number of applications increase by around 20% compared to last year, reflecting increasing parental confidence and improved results. Overall, 319 parents put ARK Putney as one of their choices of schools, compared to 267 last year. The school has places for six forms – a total of 180 children in Year 7.

However, there are still some places available at ARK Putney for pupils who have not yet secured their choice of school.

The school - part of the ARK network of thirteen academies, twelve of which are rated good or outstanding by Ofsted - has recently signed a contract to fully refurbish their 1950s grade II listed building. The redevelopment will provide state of the art facilities by summer 2015, including a new sports hall and outdoor games area.

Alison Downey, Principal of ARK Putney, said: “It’s great to see that parents have such confidence in our school, we have big ambitions for all our pupils to go on to university or their career of choice when they are 18. If you haven’t yet got a school place for your child, I would encourage you to get in touch with us and come visit our school. With a new building opening soon, it’s an exciting time to join ARK Putney.”

Students celebrated record A level results last summer, with 82% of students achieved at least three A level or equivalent passes. The school was rated in the top 1% of all schools in the country for AS Level results, based on a measure of how pupils progress, known as “ALPs”. GCSE maths results were particularly strong, with 74% of students gaining a grade between A* and C for GCSE, above the national average.

He joined ARK Putney's sixth form last September. Michael said: “I wanted to come to ARK Putney sixth form because statistically I think it is a really good school. Also, it is big enough to be successful but small enough that the teachers actually know your name. Here the teachers go the extra mile to give you revision sessions after school and holidays.”
