Massive Fire Hits Battersea Arts Centre

Blaze leads to road closures and traffic chaos in the surrounding area

A major fire has hit Battersea Arts Centre this afternoon with flames towering above the building. The Fire Brigade are attending and Station Manager John Snelgrove says they are working hard to keep the fire under control.

According to Battersea Arts Centre the building was safely evacuated and nobody required any medical treatment.

Eye witnesses report that the back roof of the building has completely collapsed.

Battersea Arts Centre have cancelled all performances for this weekend and it is likely that there will be more prolonged disruption to their programme.

Wandsworth Museum recently announced that they were to move to Battersea Arts Centre but it is understood none of the collection was transferred to this site.
