Local Night Tube Launch Planned for September

Central and Piccadilly line services will be last in phased roll out

The Press Association are reporting the night tube service is to be rolled out this August and September.

Quoting ‘sources’, they say that Transport for London have pencilled in dates in August to start the service on the Victoria and Jubilee lines with late-running at weekends being introduced on the Central, Piccadilly and Northern line the following month. The Piccadilly line service will include a stop at Turnham Green.

Drivers are currently being trained to deliver the new services and are expected to be ready by the Summer.

"The new drivers can see what having a strong trade union means for protecting pay and working conditions and whole groups have been joining up together," said Finn Brennan, Aslef's organiser on London Underground.

"The package the union has negotiated means they are guaranteed the same benefits as existing drivers and will be able to move to full-time roles if they choose to."

The unions are blaming TfL for the delayed introduction of the night tube service which will be around a year being schedule if these reports are correct. Mr Brennan claims that his union were always in favour of the introduction of the service.

The Night Tube wil mean 24-hour services at weekends on five lines.
