Tube Strike Causes Chaos at Local Stations

Limited service offered until Wednesday morning

Industrial action by the RMT Union began at 9.30pm last night, Monday April 28 and will continue until the morning of Wednesday April 30 after talks between Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union & London Underground (LU) failed after only two hours and both parties left the conciliatory service Acas.

The union say the strike is necessary to prevent ticket office closures which they believe compromise safety.

There have been chaotic scenes at stations this morning with Transport for London running a limited service on most lines.

A second round of strikes is due to take place from 9pm on Monday 5th May. This strike action will take place ahead of a May Day event in memory of former RMT leader Bob Crow, who died of a suspected heart attack on March 11, aged 52. The event will also be in remembrance of Tony Benn, the politician and campaigner who died several days after Mr Crow.
