Hopes Fade for Last Minute Tube Deal

Strike due for Wednesday evening looks set to proceed

The chances of a last minute deal to avert a tube strike this Wednesday and Thursday look to have faded. The unions are claiming that a revised offer from London Underground (LU) has come too late for them to properly consider.

Members of the RMT and TSSA unions are due to strike for 24 hours from 6.30pm on Wednesday 8 July. Tube drivers from the ASLEF are holding a 24 hour strike starting at 9.30pm. The strike is about the pay and conditions which will apply when 24 hour operation is introduced on certain lines from 12 September.

London Underground say there will be no tube service from 'late afternoon' on Wednesday and none at all on Thursday.

DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail staff are not on strike.

The offer which includes a 2% rise this year and £2,000 for drivers on the new night Tube was described as a 'full and final' offer by LU's chief operating officer Steve Griffiths.

Finn Brennan, ASLEF’s district organiser, said, ‘Our members are entitled to a family life and to some sort of work/life balance. We aren’t opposed to all night services but we want them introduced in a fair and sensible way which rewards staff for their hard work and the contribution they make to the success of the London Underground.’

First Great Western services to and from Paddington will also be disrupted for 48 hours from Wednesday evening due to a strike by the RMT over working conditions.
