East Putney To Be Home To Little Waitrose

As company announces expansion plans

Waitrose has revealed that East Putney is one of four locations for a Little Waitrose convenience shop to open in London before the end of the year, (Sidcup, Monument, and one other location is still to be confirmed). The retailer said that it plans to increase its presence in 2014 through at least ten new little Waitrose shops.

Nigel Keen, Waitrose's Director of Development, said:
"In what is a challenging time for high streets we are pleased to be in a position to bring forward plans for new investment, which ensures we can continue build our presence in and around London. Although we are still relatively new to the convenience sector, our opening programme is gathering pace and we are building sales all the time."

Putney Town Centre Manager, Stephen Wallace told PutneySW15.com:
"It’s great to see Waitrose, a successful major retailer, making new investments in Putney. It is a further example of the continuing pattern of inward investment in the town aimed at improving retail choice and convenience, in this case along the Upper Richmond Road. New restaurants such as Alquimia, Bills, Glass Dome, Putney Canteen and The Toy Shop bar are other examples. Major improvements; such as the redevelopment of The Exchange shopping centre in Putney High Street and the imminent arrival of retailer H&M continue this trend, to the benefit of the town and its customers".

Currentlythere are 37 little Waitrose outlets around the country, with stores in Nottingham, Bristol and Newcastle. However, they are focusing much of their nvestment in London with six stores opened so far in 2013
