Civic Suite Converts To Food Depot

Council tries to ensure vital supplies sent out to the people that most need them

A new food distribution depot has been set up in the town hall so that vital supplies can be sent out to the people that most need them.

The council is distributing food supplied by the Government to vulnerable people from the depot in the Wandsworth Civic Suite, usually used for wedding receptions, conferences and other events. Council staff are packaging up the food into parcels and delivering them.

It has also donated funds and space in the Civic Suite to Age UK Wandsworth. Volunteers are sending out care packages of donated food to older people who can’t get to the shops and have no-one to shop for them.

“This is the heart of our food distribution operation and I’d like to thank everyone who is working hard to get these food packages made up and delivered,” said leader of Wandsworth Council Cllr Ravi Govindia.

“We will continue to help the people we know of who need support, and would urge anyone else who is struggling to get in touch. You can call our Community Hub on 020 8871 6555.”

Age UK Wandsworth is always in need of more supplies and is keen to hear from individuals and businesses who can donate food and money to buy food. They are especially keen to receive tinned meat, fish, beans and fruit.
