Chief Pharmacist of Wandsworth CCG Joins Pharmacy Elite

Awarded Fellow of the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Society Fellowships are one of the highest levels of recognition that can be awarded to pharmacists and recognises individuals who have attained distinction in their pharmacy career.

Nick has had a long and illustrious career in the NHS. A Pharmacy graduate of Kings College London in 1986, Nick achieved an MSc in Pharmacy Practice in 1998 and worked as a hospital pharmacist between 1986 and 1999 before joining Wandsworth CCG (PCT) in 2001. He will formally receive the Fellowship at a ceremony in June 2015.

Nick says that as a recipient of the title of Faculty Fellow he feels honoured and he looks forward to continuing to work locally and in his role as Chair of the National Pharmaceutical Advisers Group that gives him the opportunity to work at a national level and shape the future of pharmacy and improve patient care. He says:
“There is always room to improve what is being done for the profession and patient care. For example, as Chair of the National Pharmaceutical Advisory Group I am in a position to advise the Department of Health and NHS England about developments in primary care as pharmacists and GP practices work more and more closely. I am also able to contribute to pharmacy development through my membership of a number of local, London-wide and national groups. ”

“On a personal level to be awarded the Fellowship is the highest accolade – it is recognition that I have reached exceptional professional practice. I didn’t think I had a chance as most people who are awarded Fellowships are from academic backgrounds or national figures. It is extremely gratifying and I am proud of myself and the organisation I work for.”

On hearing of Nick’s award, Dr Nicola Jones, Chair of Wandsworth CCG said:“Nick has worked tirelessly for patients in Wandsworth for many years. He has always promoted excellence in prescribing amongst GP practices and as a result we have a strong track record of high quality prescribing across the CCG. Thanks to him we have a fantastic team of pharmacists who support our prescribers. I am so pleased that he has been honoured in this way and it is indeed well-deserved.”
