Wandsworth Police Run Community Action Day

Part of a major drive to enhance relations with the communities they serve

Community Action Days create new opportunities for officers to speak with people who live and work across the borough about the issues that matter most to them. The days also give policing teams the opportunity to share what is being done to tackle crime and to discuss how problems can be solved together.

The event, which is the fourth of its kind, took place on Thursday, 19 February. A number of events took place during the day's activities across the borough. Officers met with members from the Muslim community to speak about racially aggravated offences and to encourage those who are on the receiving end of this type of hate-crime to report it to police.

Officers in and around Clapham Junction carried out bike-marking as well as offering crime prevention advice on how to 'Love Your Bike' to help prevent theft and keep their cycle safe.

In addition, in Tooting, officers carried out high-visibility patrols and activity to try and prevent anti-social behaviour from groups of youths hanging around Copeland House following concerns from residents.

Chief Inspector Steve McSorley, from Wandsworth police, said: "We are committed to being visible in our communities and responsive to what they want from their local police. These community engagement days can only serve to strengthen ties to the communities we serve."
