Switch To Direct Debit And You Could Get £5000

Residents who sign up to pay council tax by direct debit could win a big cash prize

One lucky Wandsworth resident could scoop £5,000 after Wandsworth signed up to a national council tax campaign launched by Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs), the not-for-profit organisation behind direct debit in the UK.

To be in with a chance of winning the £5,000 prize, Wandsworth residents must register to pay their council tax bill by direct debit before 5pm on September 30.

Sign up online at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/counciltax, or call (020) 8871 7799 to use the dedicated Direct Debit telephone line, which is open 24 hours a day. Residents who already pay their council tax by direct debit will automatically be entered into the prize draw.

Direct debit is the cheapest and simplest way of collecting council tax and the savings it delivers can be returned to taxpayers in the form of lower bills.

Seven out of every ten Wandsworth residents are already paying their bills this way and this saves the town hall tens of thousands of pounds each year.

Gaven Downton, Wandsworth Council Revenues Manager, said:
“Direct debit is a simple, safe and secure means of payment which is also more convenient for residents than other payment methods. It is also a much cheaper way for us to process payments and the money we save can be used for the benefit of local residents. Thanks to the prize on offer from Bacs, there is an incentive for residents to switch payment methods and we’d love to see someone from Wandsworth win the £5,000."
