Thames Community Foundation Joins Flood Fundraising Effort

Now people in Wandsworth can donate locally and do their bit to help.

Thames Community Foundation is joining the efforts to raise funds for people devastated by floods in Cumbria.

The Cumbria Community Foundation set up the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund on November 20th, the morning after the floods began and donations have already been received from across the UK.

It is helping individuals left homeless and without possessions, and community groups running projects to help the victims.

Now people in Wandsworth can donate locally and do their bit to help.  You can log on to http://www.cumbriafoundation.org/ or send cheques to Thames Community Foundation, NPL Building 1 Room 201/206. Hampton Road Teddington TW11 0LW.

The fund total is already at more than £720,000, and every donation, large or small, will help support these struggling communities.

The towns of Cockermouth, Workington and Keswick were worst hit, but there have been pockets of flooding across Cumbria with several rivers bursting their banks.

Thames Community Foundation’s director, Nigel Hay, said:
“We know that people in Wandsworth  will have been touched by the devastation we have seen on our television sets and we are delighted to be able to support our colleagues in Cumbria who are directing the funds to the people who need help now and the communities that will need help to recover”.

Deb Muscat, acting director at Cumbria Community Foundation, added:
“The response from the public is fantastic, and it is great to know even people from many miles away are thinking about Cumbria at this difficult time. We have had donations and even fundraising events from as far away as Kent. Now the kind offer of help from Thames Community Foundation to take donations locally is a great boost. We’re really grateful to the staff there for helping out.”

The Fund will help people with emergency clothes, food, children’s materials and other essentials. It will also fund community groups helping out with advice, information, counselling, and activities.”
