Local MP Nominated For Two Awards

Justine Greening up for 'MP of the Year' and 'Minister of the Year'

Justine Greening became MP for Putney, Roehampton and Southfields in 2005 when she won the seat from an incumbent Labour MP with a swing of 6.46%. She is a graduate in economics, trained accountant and has both an MBA and experience in a number of top companies: all prime experience for her role as a shadow Treasury minister from 2007-2009 and as Economic Secretary to the Treasury since May 2010.

She has campaigned strongly against the expansion of Heathrow airport, and also leads a campaign for better service and cleaner tube trains on the District line which services her constituency: she has already ensured that a new lift was recently installed at Southfields.

During the Parliamentary expenses scandal Greening was ranked as the 9th best value for money MP in research carried out by the independent think tank, the Adam Smith Institute

'Commons Minister of the Year' - This award will be chosen by the parliamentary press lobby.  Justine described as ' ..a combative performer in the Commons and in the media, making an effective case on behalf of the Treasury'. She is shortlisted with:

* Rt Hon Danny Alexander MP (Catapulted to key post in the run-up to the spending review and quickly asserted himself as one of the ‘quadrant’ of top ministers)

* Alistair Burt MP ( Handled events in the Middle East and North Africa with great care and élan, treating the House with respect and keeping Members well-briefed)

* Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP (Consistent and focused in implementing welfare reforms).

'MP of The Year' The Scottish Widows & Dods Women in Public Life Awards celebrate women leaders in society and seek to recognise and promote the work of women in politics, business, the civil service and community leadership.  The Awards which are now in their fifth year, aim to highlight the achievements of outstanding women role models amongst us.

The three nominees are;
Kate Hoey, Member of Parliament for Vauxhall
Justine Greening, MP for Putney, Economic Secretary to the Treasury
Caroline Lucas, Member of Parliament for Brighton Pavilion

After being nominated Justine said “I am really pleased to be nominated Minister of the Year. Alongside my constituency role, I have worked hard in my role as Economic Secretary to the Treasury to do my best to sort out our public finances and get the economy back on track.

It’s also a great honour to be nominated MP of the Year in the Women in Public Life awards as being a good constituency MP is really important to me. I work hard to represent our community in Parliament and I hope that I can continue to make a difference for our community on the issues both local and national that really matter to us.”
