BCU 1 STAR COURSE (Introduction) - 6 places available per course of 4 sessions

As an introductory course, the BCU 1Star has FUN at the heart of it as you become familiar with the equipment and how to handle it both on and off the water. Brentford Lock is a safe and fun stretch of water, where the odd long boat chugs slowly past and wildlife birds build nests!

The 1 star certificate will help you gain an understanding of the building blocks of the sport of canoeing and we’re sure you’ll become hooked and want to learn more! So book now to learn the FUNdamentals!

THE COMMUNITY PADDLE - PADDLEFEST
Bringing Kew Bridge to life! The Community Paddle aims to bring friends, families and communities together to enjoy the Thames.

Participants are encouraged to have gained their 2 star skills or have been through our FUNdamentals 1 Star introductory course (above)

You will be paddling on the tidal Thames with other river craft so being able to control your boat and manoeuvre it effectively is necessary. This was a popular paddle last year – the summer evenings on this stretch of water are amazing so if you want to progress your paddling towards a 2 Star certification or brush up on current skills come down and join us!

Wednesday evenings: 6.30pm-8.30pm - Starts from 10th April onwards

SATURDAY MORNING ACADEMY
A Saturday morning workshop is perfect for youngsters and parents alike – children will have great fun in a boat or two while parents enjoy a coffee looking out across the waterways! Brentford Lock provides a perfect venue for water based games, skills and activities can be developed to improve balance, awareness, co-ordination and especially teamwork!

So what better way to start your weekend than a family visit to Brentford Lock and whether parents choose to join in the fun or grab some coffee and watch on, all is possible during this session!

BCU FOUNDATION SAFETY & RESCUE TRAINING (FSRT) “The one day course that gives such a return”
This course is designed for anyone wanting to become familiar with key safety and rescue skills applied in a beginner’s scenario. This course will benefit anyone looking to gain confidence within the sport of canoeing and kayaking as well as a pre-requisite for those looking to complete a UKCC Level 1 coaching course.

If you have 2 star paddling skills but not the certification, don’t worry the certification is only needed for those wanting to become coaches (Of course if you do want certification please get in touch).

This will be a fun filled day, incorporating wet situations AND you’ll be amazed how you can empty a ton of water from an open canoe by yourself, using the right techniques! Anyone finding themselves out with pals or groups will benefit from this course, picking up many tips about kit, self and group safety and of course best practise standards used by the whole kayak community!
