Children’s Audiology Open Day

Tuesday 20th January from 10am - 1pm

The Audiology Department at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton is opening its doors, and welcoming visitors on Tuesday 20 January 2009.  The sponsored event will offer children and their families a chance to learn more about hearing difficulties and how the Audiology team can help. There will also be information about other services that are available to children who have hearing problems
 

In the UK there are more than 34,000 deaf children aged 0-15 years old, and about 12,000 of them were born deaf.  The Audiology department at Queen Mary’s offers specialist advice and support to each individual child, and their families.

There will be advice and information available from the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS), who will be bringing their Listening Bus along to give demonstrations of the new technology available to children with hearing difficulties.  You can also find out all about the Audiology department and register your child with the hearing aid service.  There will be information available about speech and language therapy services and the Ewing Foundation amongst others.

Justine Sweet, Head of Audiology Services at Queen Mary’s Hospital, said

“We hope the day will offer parents the chance to find out what our team does, and how we can help them.  There will be stalls run by the Ewing Foundation, the National Deaf Children’s Society and others, giving out information and advice about hearing aids and methods of communication for deaf children.  And there will also be lots of fun for the kids including a colouring competition and goodie bags for everyone.”
