Looking For A Job?

Series of job fairs to spearhead local employment drive

On Wednesday October 23rd Wandsworth Council will host the first in a series of jobs fairs offering local unemployed people access to a range of new employment, training and apprenticeship opportunities.

The events are part of the town hall’s drive to help local people find work and will be hosted by Council leader Ravi Govindia and the council’s new Work Match recruitment team.

The first job fair will be on the Patmore Estate in Nine Elms, Battersea. It will bring together more than 25 local businesses, training providers and community organisations, as well as developers and construction companies from nearby investment sites.

Cllr Govindia explains more:
“This council is taking an increasing role in helping unemployed people find jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities. We are now acting as the link between a range of employers and Wandsworth residents who are currently out of work. Our new Work Match team provides a professional recruitment service which carefully accesses candidates and vacancies to ensure the right people are put forward for the right job.

“Local developers, including the major investors in Wandsworth Town and Nine Elms on the South Bank, will recruit hundreds of residents through our Work Match service so local unemployed people now have a real advantage when these vacancies come up. Some of these development projects, like Battersea Power Station and Embassy Gardens, will provide a steady stream of construction roles for many years to come which will add up to an incredibly valuable legacy for local communities.

He continued:
“Our new job fairs are the next stage in the council’s local employment drive and will bring dozens of businesses, developers and education providers together under one roof to showcase a wide range of jobs and training roles. These employers are looking for motivated local candidates to fill all sorts of vacancies, from engineering cadets and labourers, to office and shop roles.

“If you live in Wandsworth and are out of work I strongly recommend you come to our job fairs or get in touch with the council’s Work Match team.”
