Labour

At 29 pages, Labour's manifesto is comprehensive and detailed � more so than any of our opponents are offering. Our ideas for a better Wandsworth have been independently costed: they offer a value for money manifesto that retains our borough's low tax record, whilst expanding services where people need them. Our goal is to make Wandsworth:

Cleaner - introduce pavement washing to our town centres, introduce resident caretakers to our estates � who'll train as special constables to help cut crime and clamp down on dog fouling

Greener - boost recycling to at least 33% by 2010, introduce a garden waste recycling service and bring the orange sack recycling scheme to council estates; we'll also micro-generate as much of the council's energy as possible. Under Labour, Wandsworth will become a flagship �green� borough;

Smarter - By 2010 Wandsworth pupils will be ahead of the curve on GCSE and A level pass rates. We'll guarantee no school closures during our first term of office; introduce a LifeStyle card for affordable access to council fitness and leisure centres and provide real opportunities for teenagers in the evenings to keep them off the streets;

Safer - We'll introduce patrollers to all our town centres; upgrade estate entry phones to videophones over four years, make sure all our CCTV works and make our new Safer Neighbourhood Police teams 100% responsive to community concerns;

Fairer - We'll keep Wandsworth a low tax borough but we'll make residents' parking free, re-open OAP lunch-clubs, bring the 2nd highest council rents in London into line with the Capital's average, help leaseholders with service charges, introduce WandCorps � a new volunteering programme and renovate war memorials in time for the centenary of the start of the First World War.

Liberal Democrats

Streets & pavements: back to the Brighter Borough .  Reverse the deterioration of the Borough's roads and pavements

Environment policy: real action and real accountability . Setting high standards and reporting back.  Leading the community on wider action on pollution and transport.

Law and order: confidence and justice .  Deterrence; justice; results.  Visible policing and new approaches to antisocial behaviour.

Communities: enriching the social environment.  Development benefit for all residents; joined-up delivery of social services.

Education: real choices for residents.  High standards; increased secondary provision; ensure that there is a good local choice for all.

Managing the Council: open and effective.  Leadership across whole community; open government; value for money; keep the Council Tax low.

UKIP

Today, local councils are weak and powerless. They are too often told what to do by central
government. Looking after the interests of their local communities has to take second place.

The UK Independence Party believes in givin g real democratic power and resources to local communities to tackle issues like planning, crime, social services, transport and education.
