An opportunity to find out more about the summer closure
Residents and businesses in Putney and Fulham will be able to ask questions about this summer’s closure of Putney Bridge and find out more about local travel arrangements at a special Q&A session next week.
Between 1pm and 8pm on Wednesday, June 11, council staff will be on hand at St Mary’s Church on Putney Bridge to answer any questions about the £1.5m programme of repairs and the effect it will have on local bus services.
Businesses will also be able to ask questions and get advice on seeking reductions in business rates whilst the repairs take place and general information about the new Retail Rate Relief, introduced in April.
Earlier this week it was announced that the Grade II Listed bridge will close to all vehicle traffic on Monday, July 14 for urgent repairs. It will remain closed for approximately three months.
During this period pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to cross it but those with bikes will need to dismount and wheel them across.
Buses will operate a shuttle service from both ends of the bridge. This means that passengers will need to cross it on foot to carry on their journeys.
The council’s transport spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said:
“Residents and businesses with questions about the closure will be able to get the answers they need at this drop-in session next week. People who can’t make it that day can also email their queries to us at putneybridgerepairs@wandsworth.gov.uk.
“Unfortunately a major repair like this to a busy river crossing means there will be disruption to the travelling public and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause - but we have pushed hard to keep this to the absolute minimum and ensured the works are carried out at a time of the year when the roads are at their quietest.
“However, the repairs are absolutely necessary to protect the bridge’s internal fabric and structural integrity. Our primary goal now is to get this important task done quickly and efficiently.”
