South Thames College brings computer games to life!

Do you devote a great part of your life to playing computer games? Ever wondered what makes some games playable for hours on end and others go straight back to the shop after a week? Well now South Thames College is offering youngsters a unique chance to follow their GCSEs with a course in Computer Games Development, a brand new course that combines the fun with the serious, and gives you some great employment opportunities for good measure.

 

At the time of writing this is the only opportunity in the country for school leavers to study the design and production of computer games � you normally have to wait until university to study this fascinating, creative subject.

 

Computer Games Development is an innovative and exciting course which covers a range of topics, including: computer game design concepts, computer programming for games development, computer graphics, sound design, and music applications for games. You will also review the development of computer games over the last thirty years � from Pacman through to Tetris, Lara Croft through to Pro Evolution Soccer.

The course is a BTEC National Diploma in Media, a highly respected Level 3 qualification, which can lead on to a number of Level 4 courses � a HNC in Computing or Computer Programming at South Thames College, or a FDSc in Computer Networking offered at Kingston University in collaboration with South Thames College. From there the lucrative world of computer programming is your oyster! Students need four GCSEs at grades C or above to apply � including Maths (or a Science) and English.
