Maestro Arts announces Yvette Vanson's Exhibition - Facing Threat

Maestro Arts is pleased to announce Yvette Vanson's Exhibition Facing Threat 23 February - 17 April. She will be also creating art works in the Gallery between 23 February and 2 March.

Yvette Vanson first picked up a paintbrush in 2004, attending Putney School of Art & Design a college which has been serving the community in South London for over 150 years. She now paints full time and is motivated by a strong political commitment to tackling injustice, by exploring and exposing exploitation and inequality and then communicating these abuses and ways to overcome them through her work.

Yvettes first London exhibition, FACING THREATS at Maestro Arts draws on her experiences from a trip to Tar Sands, Alberta in Canada. The desecration of the ancient boreal forest, lands of the Cree First Nations, is catastrophic. The pollution of ancient hunting grounds and rivers is driven by the grotesque search for profits from dirty oil. The Crees legal and political fight to reclaim and develop their threatened lands along with many indigenous people throughout the world, is the subject of FACING THREATS.

Yvette has been invited by the Centre for Law and the Humanities at Birkbeck Law School, University of London to exhibit some of her paintings on March 22/23 2013 during the Annual Conference of the International Association for the Study of Law, Culture and the Humanities (ASLCH), the first time the ASLCH has held its annual meeting outside of North America. In addition she will be a Visiting Scholar/Artist in Residence at Birkbeck Law School in the Autumn Term of 2013.

Yvette has been married to Michael for 28 years and they have a son, Freddy. Yvette Vanson was a successful actress (1970 - 1976); a BAFTA & RTS award winning independent producer/director of powerful documentaries/dramas such as The Murder of Stephen Lawrence, The Battle for Orgreave (1979 - 2000)* - her archive is housed in the British Film Institute; a writer/editor, most notably of Michael Mansfields Memoirs of a Radical Lawyer (2009) and The Inquest, a novel (soon to be published).
