End Of Month Deadline For Secondary School Applications

Council reminds parents that applications must be in by October 31st

Parents in Wandsworth are being reminded that they have until the end of this month to submit their applications for a secondary school place next year.

Preparations are now well underway for admissions to secondary schools in September 2018 - and to obtain a place parents must apply by Tuesday, October 31.

This crucial deadline applies to children who were born between September 1, 2006 and August 31, 2007.

Parents can find out more about Wandsworth’s 11 state-funded secondary schools and helpful information on how to apply for a place by reading the council’s 'Choose a Wandsworth Secondary School' brochure.

The brochure and more information outlining the simple and easy-to-follow application process can also be found on the council’s website. Parents and carers who want to make an online application will find a link to the e-admissions website.

Copies of the brochure can also be obtained by emailing admissions@wandsworth.gov.uk or by telephoning (020) 8871 7316. Staff on that number can also help with any queries parents and carers may have

Parents of children living in the borough must apply online or submit their application form to Wandsworth Town Hall by the October 31 deadline. Those living elsewhere must apply to their home borough by the same date.

People who submit their school choices ahead of this month’s deadline will be told the outcome of their applications in March 2018.

Cabinet member for education Cllr Sarah McDermott said: “Parents are advised to read the brochure we’ve produced as it contains lots of information about local schools and offers a step-by-step guide to the applications process.

"Parents need to list the schools they would like their child to attend, in order or preference. The system is designed to allocate them a place at their highest ranked school of choice, as long as they meet the published admissions criteria.

“They can list up to six schools in any part of London on the one application but it is always best to include one that is close to where they live.”

People who apply online, using the secure and confidential pan-London admissions website, will receive helpful tips and prompts as they go through the process.

Applications can be edited and amended as often as parents choose right up to the deadline and each time it is completed parents will receive an email notification confirming the application has been properly received and registered.
