as Council approve plans for borough "gateway"
Plans
have been approved for the erection of two sculptures at the Wandsworth
Bridge 'gateway' to the borough.
Each structure comprises a glass cone which sits on a steel and glass
base and is mounted on a stone plinth. A spiral of bronze steel will curve
around the structure.
The lights inside the cone will be computer-controlled so that it changes
colour at low and high tides.
The planning applications committee was told on April 21 that the sculptures
would provide a modern design feature in a once rundown industrial area
which was changing rapidly as a result of the major development at Battersea
Reach.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council will also be asked to consider a similar
proposal for the north approach to the bridge.
