Create A Piece Of Art For Public Display

Artists invited to redecorate Brentford High Street for 3 years

Proposals are invited for a new piece of public art on Brentford High Street.  Brentford High Street Steering Group want to hear ideas from West London artists keen to produce a high quality piece of work to enhance the appearance of a series of boarded up shop fronts on the High Street.  It is expected that the work will remain in place for approximately 3 years.

Brentford High Street is in a period of transition.  The local authority and local communities are working with Ballymore, the developer, to transform the High Street over the next few years.  As preparation for the development progresses, there are spaces and buildings which are empty and which offer opportunities for alternative uses and treatments.   A series of premises along the High Street have been boarded up and now offer the opportunity for an artist to develop an installation which will actively engage visitors to the town centre.

Brentford is an important local centre in the borough of Hounslow.  It is situated on the banks of the Thames by the junction with the Grand Union Canal and has a strong association with these local waterways.  Brentford is also home to the Great West Road, a prominent section of the major artery linking Heathrow to Central London, which is occupied by a wide range of corporate headquarters.   Brentford is also known as a significant creative industries hub, particularly in the fields of media and broadcasting.

The project does not carry a commission fee.  However, it is envisaged that the project will offer a high profile opportunity to present and promote the selected artist’s work over a period of 3 years.

The site is on the south side of Brentford High Street in the town centre.

The total size of the space is:  Height: 245cm / Width: 1295cm.  This excludes the space currently covered with a car wash sign.  The space is currently divided into 10 panels which are 121cm across, and an 11th panel which is 85cm across.

Interested artists are invited to submit a proposal, the deadline of which is Thursday 8th April. Please email for full details
