Julian Ciepluch messaged the lyrics 'Hope I Die Before I Get Old'

A man who died after climbing onto the tracks at Wandsworth Town station in June this year texted a last message saying 'Hope I die before I get old' to his sister, an inquest heard this week.

53-year-old Julian Ciepluch was hit by a high speed train after spending his last days sending messages and emails to family and friends. Westminster Coroner's Court heard how he also left a suicide note in his pocket.

The court also heard how the father of two, from Edenvale Street in Fulham, had been struggling with the breakdown of his marriage, losing his job at the Financial Services Authority and caring for his sick mother.

As well as texting the lyrics from The Who classic 'My Generation', he emailed a friend in Japan saying that he was fortunate to have known him.

There was only one other person, Tanalee Gladwyn, at Wandsworth Town at the time of Mr Ciepluch's death. She reported asking him to be careful as he was standing close to the platform's edge and that as he climbed onto the tracks "his face was serene, he was smiling".


The coroner recorded that Mr Ciepluch died of multiple injuries and gave a verdict of suicide.
