Riverside Quarter residents want to be listened to

with around 600 objections against the proposals

Residents are very disappointed to learn that despite major local opposition, around 600 objections, the planners have recommended that the Council's Planning Committee approve the scheme when they meet on Tuesday 22 May. The decision now rests with Wandsworth’s Planning Committee.

The proposed buildings are much bigger and taller than the buildings already at Riverside Quarter and also much much bigger than the scheme that the developer consented to originally. One building is 15 stories high.

If this scheme does get the go ahead it will be a major blow to local infrastructure which is already at full capacity. Impact on local roads (Putney Bridge Road) already suffering from the congestion charge extension, parking and additional strain on one of the worst train services in the country. We all know how hard it is to get on a train at Wandsworth Town or Putney already. Also will impact on Grade II listed Wandsworth Park.

Also, clearly any decision taken could set a precedent for future developments in Putney and Wandsworth. We all know that Young's Brewery is about to be redeveloped and the development at Battersea Reach is yet to be completed. Furthermore we hear that developers have purchased derelict buildings in the immediate locale of Point Pleasant and are waiting for the planning precedent to be set, so that they themselves can build tall towers overlooking the listed Wandsworth Park.

Residents at Riverside Quarter are not saying no to development at the site but have been trying to get the developer to listen to the concerns and compromise by bringing the development more in line with what is already developed at Riverside Quarter rather than large tall buildings that don't fit in with the local area and environment. We hope that there is a way forward here.

The Planning Committee to decide whether scheme takes place at the Town Hall. (22 May, 7.30pm). Apparently if anyone feels strongly about it they can turn up.
