Have Your Say On Transport Plan For 2011

Wandsworth Council is now seeking the public's views

A new transport plan for the borough, that could deliver multi-million pound improvements to the local travel network, is being considered by the Council and the views of Wandsworth residents are now wanted.

The borough’s Local Implementation Plan (LIP), sets out how the council will play its role in helping deliver the Mayor’s transport strategy from 2011 onwards.

The plan, which could lead to investment of around £10m in local transport facilities by 2014, proposes a raft of improvements to the borough’s road network and transport interchanges. It also proposes spending on road safety and cycle training, plus additional support for Wandsworth’s burgeoning car club membership.

Last week, the Mayor’s transport organisation, Transport for London (TfL), announced the latest tranche of cash it was allocating to Wandsworth under the existing LIP programme. The funding of £3.7m will help pay for major transport improvement programmes in Clapham Junction town centre and also at Earlsfield station.

Now the public are being asked to submit their views on the council’s transport objectives, targets and potential transport improvements up to 2014.

The council will be seeking to proceed with projects that deliver the best value for money and offer the widest possible benefits to the travelling public.

Consultation on the draft document lasts until February 18. Copies have been sent to a wide range of local amenity groups and are also available at libraries. Further details and a downloadable version can be found on the council’s website at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/lip
