The Council wants to know your views on the new transport plan

Residents still have time to register their views on a new transport plan for the borough that could deliver multi-million pound improvements to the local travel network.

The borough’s Local Implementation Plan (LIP) sets out how the council will play its role in helping deliver the Mayor’s transport strategy.

The plan, which could lead to investment of around £10m in local transport facilities by 2014, proposes a raft of improvements to the borough’s road network and transport interchanges, spending on road safety and cycle training, plus additional support for Wandsworth’s burgeoning car club membership.

Last month, the Mayor’s transport organisation Transport for London announced the latest tranche of cash it was allocating to Wandsworth under the existing LIP programme. This funding of £3.7m will help pay for major transport improvement programmes in Clapham Junction town centre and also at Earlsfield station.

Now the public are being asked to submit their views on the council’s transport objectives, targets and potential transport improvements over the next three years.

The council will be seeking to proceed with projects that deliver the best value for money and offer the widest possible benefits to the travelling public.

Consultation on the draft document lasts until Friday, February 18. Copies have been sent to a wide range of local amenity groups and are also available at libraries. Further details and a downloadable version can be found on the council’s website at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/lip.

You can also order a printed version from the technical services department. Email lip@wandsworth.gov.uk or telephone (020) 8871 6674.

The Mayor’s transport strategy was published last May and is available at www.london.gov.uk/publication/mayors-transport-strategy. Under the Greater London Authority Act 1999 each London local authority must produce a Local Implementation Plan showing how it will contribute to the strategy
