Nominate A Local Hero Or Community Champion

Wandsworth Mayor invites nominations for this year's Civic Awards

The Wandsworth Civic Awards are held annually, and recognise local people who have volunteered their services over a long period of time to help others. They could include charity workers, community activists or anyone whose tireless work has made a difference to their local area.

For this year only, the Mayor, Cllr Jane Cooper, will also be handing out awards to local heroes. These will recognise the bravery and community spirit of people who helped protect their neighbourhood during last month’s disorder, or who helped rebuild it afterwards.

The winners will be presented with their awards at a glittering ceremony at the Wandsworth Civic Suite in November.

The Mayor said:

“The Civic Awards are always the highlight of each Mayor’s year in office because they give us the chance to recognise the tireless work people do for others. This year the awards will be extra-special, because we will also be thanking people who brought our communities together during the terrible events in August.

“I’m keen to hear about people who would otherwise go unrewarded and unrecognised for their work. It’s time to give our community stalwarts and local heroes a pat on the back.”

If you would like to nominate someone for a Civic Award or local hero award, write to the mayor’s secretary, Pat Battista, at Wandsworth Town Hall, London SW18 2PU,  or email her on pbattista@wandsworth.gov.uk.

You will need to include the name, age and address of the person you are nominating, plus two or three paragraphs explaining why you think they deserve the award.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, October 11.
