Assault On District Line Train At East Putney

"This was a frightening assault"

British Transport Police (BTP) detectives are appealing for the public’s help after a man suffered facial injuries following an unprovoked assault.

The incident happened at around 11.50pm on 15 May on the evening of the Europa League Cup Final between Chelsea FC and Benfica.

Detective Sergeant Doug Fairbairn, the investigating officer, said: “The victim entered Fulham Broadway London Underground (LU) station and boarded a westbound District Line train towards Wimbledon.

“During the journey a group of around five men boarded the train and one of them assaulted the victim.

"He was assaulted again at East Putney LU station before the group ran off towards Upper Richmond Road.”

Officers are today releasing CCTV images of five men they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

DS Fairbairn said: “This was a frightening assault that left the victim with bruising to both eyes and a swollen lip.

“All staff and passengers have the right to travel on the Tube network without fear of violence. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and officers will do all they can to bring those responsible to justice.

“If you recognise any of these men, or have any information that could help our investigation, please contact us.”
