Over Thirty Council Employees Earned Over £100,000 in 2011-12


Council accuses research of being "misleading & inaccurate"


Last month Tax Payers Alliance published their report of Town hall salaries.  Wandsworth Council has:

- 32 employees earning more than than £100,000 in 2011-12 which was the 8th Council in the UK with more than 20 employees receiving remuneration over £100,000. The council with the highest number was Barnet which had 47 employees in this pay bracket.

- 6 employees earning over £100,000 took pay cuts last year ranging from 0.64% to 39.54%

- 0 employees earning over £250,000 in 2011-12 - in the previous year there were 3 employees earning over £250,000

The largest remuneration package across London in 2010-11 was Leo Boland, Chief Executive of the Greater London Authority who received £433,157, although this also included a large payment for loss of office. 

A spokesman for the Council told PutneySW15.com:

"This piece of research by the taxpayers' alliance is misleading and inaccurate. It continues to show members of staff on our books who have either retired, got jobs elsewhere or were made redundant a long time ago. At the same time they have overestimated the number of high earners at the town hall by around 30 per cent.


He continued:

"Wandsworth has a proven track record of providing residents with the best value for money services of any local authority in the country. Council tax bills here have been the lowest in the country for the past 20 years, and are currently half the London average. These successes have been achieved because we have high calibre staff who are determined to provide the best quality services at the lowest cost to taxpayers."
