European Election Results For Wandsworth


Conservatives win large majority in local borough

32.2% of eligible voters in Wandsworth turned up at polling stations on Thursday last week giving Conservatives 39% of the local vote in the election for the European Assembly.

Labour came second with under a fifth of votes cast and the Greens pipped the Liberal Democrats into fourth place.

The Christan Party received 10 more votes than the BNP who failed to make the gains some had predicted by coming only 7th in the local area. There is no specific representative for Wandsworth in the London Assembly - these votes go towards the selection of the London-wide members.

In the London Constituency the Conservatives got 27.4% of the overall vote up by just 0.6% The other two main parties saw their votes fall with Labour down by 3.5%

Big gainers were the Green Party which came third. Contrary to the trend seen elsewhere in the country UKIP saw their vote fall in London getting 5th place with 6.47% of the votes.

The number of seats being contested has fallen from 9 to 8. Party representation remained the same as last time out apart from Labour having one less seat down to 2. Conservative still have 3 seats, Lib Dems 1, UKIP 1 and Green 1.

Turnout was 1,751,026 from an electorate of 5,257,624 which is almost exactly a third. This is an historical low but better than some were predicting.
