Summer Sports Festival Kicks Off

Get Active Wandsworth runs until end September

A summer long festival of sport and physical activity is now
underway and includes a huge array of taster sessions and events. The aim is to get the whole borough moving regardless of age or ability and to leave a lasting legacy to London 2012.

More than 4,000 people took part in last year's festival and the new programme is bigger and better than ever.

GB Olympic rower Mathew Wells is the festival's official ambassador.

He said: "It only seemed like yesterday that we were awarded the 2012 Games, yet here we are! It's great to see years of hard work, planning and collaboration in local communities finally come to fruition. The Get Active Wandsworth Festival demonstrates this coming together, and I urge everyone to get out there and try something new."

The Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Jane Cooper, officially launched the festival at the Wandsworth Schools Year 5 Mini Olympix event at Battersea Park Millennium Arena on Wednesday 18 April.

The full Get Active Wandsworth programme of events and taster sessions is available from local libraries and sports centres or can be downloaded from the council's website.
