Southern Electric, the UK's second largest energy supplier, is offering free loft and cavity wall insulation, worth around £1,000, to all local households.

The right level of insulation can make a big difference and could save households up to £310 off their energy costs a year, based on average consumption figures from the Energy Saving Trust.

Households are advised to apply now to get insulation installed ahead of the winter.

To be eligible for free insulation, residents must have less than 60mm of loft insulation and /or no cavity wall insulation. They do not have to be a Southern Electric customer.

Southern Electric, part of the SSE group, is making this offer under its CERT commitments. The offer will run until September 2012 and measures must be installed by December 2012.
