Free Family Art Workshops

At Wandsworth Museum on October 29th-30th

Find Inspiration in Objects with free family art workshops from Wandsworth Museum and the De Morgan Centre

Families are invited to get stuck into a series of free practical workshops that explore the arts of line, pattern, print and collage, taking inspiration from the fascinating collections of the De Morgan Centre and Wandsworth Museum. The workshops are part of this year’s Big Draw, running on 29th and 30th October 2013.

The Big Draw is the biggest drawing festival in the world. Now in its 13th successful year, The Big Draw runs in over 15 countries and inspires over 200,000 people every year. The whole month of October sees a season of activities aimed at expanding the boundaries of art and engaging communities in creativity.

‘Draw Tomorrow’ is the theme for 2013, and in a unique collaborative offering from two Wandsworth-based museums, the free Inspirational Objects half-term workshops invite families to sketch innovative inventions and create futuristic fantastical creatures.

Adults and children alike can have a go at art forms they may never have tried before, including tile printing and clay modelling. There’s also plenty of fun to be had with paints and graphite. Everyone is encouraged to work together to produce collaborative drawings or pieces.

Families will have a diverse collection of objects from which to gain inspiration; the De Morgan Centre displays vibrant colours and quirky characters depicted in ceramics and oil paintings, whilst Wandsworth Museum’s array of objects tell the captivating stories of Wandsworth and wider London.

Inspirational Objects is the ideal autumn half-term activity – encouraging the whole family to delve into creative fun and history.
The workshops will take place on 29th and 30th October from 1pm-4pm and are suitable for families with children aged 5+. Workshops are FREE, but families are advised to book in advance to guarantee a space – contact bookings@wandsworthmuseum.co.uk or call 020 8870 6060.
