No Parking Free-For-All in Wandsworth

Rules will still be enforced despite strike says Council

Wandsworth Council have warned motorists that parking restrictions will still be enforced despite a threatened strike by the employees of its parking contractor.

A report in the Evening Standard claimed that free parking would be available in the borough as a result of the industrial action by staff at Mouchel but the Council have described this as inaccurate saying the service would not be suspended.

They say that civil enforcement officers will be on patrol and drivers will be issued with tickets as usual.

Talks are believed to be taking place today and the GMB union say if they are not concluded satisfactorily staff will walk out today (Friday 3rd October) and Saturday.

Sadiq Khan, Labour MP for Tooting and Shadow London Minister, said. “Companies like Mouchel should be paying enough so that people don’t have to work two jobs, and it should be paying enough to keep families out of poverty. Wages have completely failed to keep pace with the cost-of living in London.”
