Suspect Charged at South Western Magistrates Court
Rupert Ross, 29, of Vera Road in Fulham SW6, appeared at South Western Magistrates Court in Clapham on Friday 12th November charged with the murder of 20-year-old Darcy Austin-Bruce on May 1st 2009 on Heathfield Road SW18.
On the afternoon of May 1st 2009, police received reports that a man had been shot outside Wandsworth prison. 20-year-old Darcy Austin-Bruce from Fulham, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem gave the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. Darcy is thought to have been a visitor on his way into the prison. A man wearing a crash helmet approached him and fired shots from a handgun - he then ran a short distance and jumped on the back of a scooter being driven by a second man, also in a crash helmet. They made off from Alma Terrace onto Trinity Road, SW18.
An incident room was opened under DCI Gordon Allison (Trident) and in February this year officers re-appealed for anyone who knew Darcy and may have information about the murder to come forward.
His family said: "This is a family appeal to anyone that has any information on the murder of a beautiful son, brother and friend. Darcy was loved. Our son Darcy Austin-Bruce was brutally murdered in cold blood outside Wandsworth prison. Darcy was a loving, kind, generous and thoughtful young man who always made us laugh and smile. You never expect these terrible things to happen to you or someone in your family, but it does and it is devastating. And as a family we are just existing. Every day the pain is as fresh as the day he was first taken from us.”
