Free Shakespeare At The Globe For School Children

19,700 free tickets for Othello on offer

Every state secondary school student in Wandsworth will have the chance to see a special production of Othello at Shakespeare’s Globe – completely for free.

The offer is part of Shakespeare’s Globe’s flagship Education project Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank. The production, from Globe Education, is specifically designed for secondary school and A-Level students. It will run from 26 February to 12 March at Shakespeare’s Globe on Bankside with over 19,700 free tickets offered to all state secondary schools in London and Birmingham. Booking for free tickets opens on 29 September at www.shakespearesglobe.com/playing-shakespeare

Globe Education’s bold productions have been praised for their edgy interpretation, appealing to teenagers whilst retaining Shakespeare’s own language and without being dumbed-down. This year’s play, Othello, raises many themes to which young people will relate such as friendship, misogyny, jealousy, racism and honour.

Schools are also offered free supporting resources, student workshops, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training for teachers and a dedicated website with extensive online resources to support the teaching of Shakespeare in the classroom www.playingshakespeare.org
