Borough Invests in Tennis For All

Council teams up with All Stars coaching

Tennis fans will soon be able to perfect their serve and volley techniques on upgraded and refurbished tennis courts as part of a determined campaign to make the sport more popular in Wandsworth.

The council has teamed up with coaches from All Win tennis to offer coaching and tuition for all ages at tennis courts across the borough.

All Win will offer coaching at six local tennis centres in a bid to get people of all ages and abilities on court. Players will be able to enjoy drop-in sessions, cardio tennis, mini-tennis camps and adult courses.

The company, which was selected by the council to manage tennis courts in King Georges Park, Wandsworth Common, Tooting Bec Common, Leaders Gardens, Putney, Furzedown Recreation Ground and Wandsworth Park, will also invest around £500,000 in court facilities and playing surfaces to bring them up to Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) standards.

The agreement has been hailed by the LTA-backed Tennis Foundation, Britain's leading tennis charity. Its executive director Geoff Newton said: "We are incredibly excited about All Win taking on the long-term operation of parks tennis in Wandsworth.

"The management behind All Win have a proven track record in the delivery of community tennis programmes and will undoubtedly continue to offer tennis opportunities suitable for everyone.

"In partnership with All Win and Wandsworth Council the LTA/TF are looking forward to encouraging many more people in Wandsworth to get involved. Tennis is a great social game and provides an enjoyable way of staying fit and healthy."

All Win, who will run the programme under the more familiar name of All Star Tennis, have been involved in tennis in Wandsworth for 15 years and have been running a full programme of activities at Wandsworth Common for over ten years.

The council's spokesman on leisure Cllr Jonathan Cook said: "This is great news for the sport of tennis in Wandsworth. This agreement has secured investment of around half a million pounds in better playing facilities for local residents to enjoy, whilst also guaranteeing some really top quality coaching for players of all ages and abilities."
