Wandsworth Arts Funding Workshop

Free advice for local artists and arts groups

With the aim of helping local artists and art groups to apply for council funding, this workshop is held on November 22nd. The two-hour session will provide information about the small grants and project grants schemes, and will give applicants the opportunity to discuss their ideas with members of the council's arts team.

The workshop runs from 6pm to 8pm at Earlsfield Library, 276 Magdalen Road, SW18. There is no need to book.

Wandsworth's arts and culture spokesman Cllr Sarah McDermott says:
"We recognise the important role art plays in our community and we want to help more of our residents to participate in creative projects. Over the years these schemes have helped develop some outstanding pieces of works and we have high hopes the next round of projects."

The arts team is particularly interested in supporting projects which will be part of the Wandsworth Arts Festival 2011 programme.

The Small Grants Fund supports new arts projects, the extension of an existing project or experiments with new work. For example, a grant could cover the cost of a rehearsed reading of a new script, or developing an outreach project to reach a new audience.

Individuals can apply for up to £500 and groups can apply for up to £1500. The grant can cover up to 70 per cent of project's total costs.

Applications can be made every other month, and a quick response time ensures the scheme is easily accessible.

The council also offers a Project Grants scheme to help groups and organisations deliver high-quality innovative projects - especially ones that engage with new audiences.

This scheme supports projects that help create long-lasting artistic partnerships and develop new skills. Projects should have significant artistic merit, and be inherently imaginative.

For Project Grants, individuals and organisations can apply for support between £1500 and £4000, and the grant will cover up to half the overall budget. Only one successful application can be made each financial year and the project must benefit the people of Wandsworth.

Deadlines for the next two grant applications are:

Monday 6 December 2010 - you will be notified by Monday 18 January

Monday 7 February 2011 - you will be notified by Monday 14 March
