South Thames College Student Murdered In Battersea


An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a student at South Thames College. While formal identification is yet to take place, police are satisfied that the deceased is 18-year-old Matthew Kitandwe from Battersea.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at just after 4.15pm on Tuesday (21 June) to an address on Wayford Street after reports of a stabbing.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as stab injuries.

An 18-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a south London police station.

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in Wayford Street or any of the surrounding roads on the afternoon of Tuesday 21 June who may have seen something out of character.
