Expect Traffic Delays In Battersea For Next 10 Weeks

As National Grid starts laying new gas mains

Motorists and bus passengers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys through Battersea for the next ten weeks, after it was announced that National Grid will begin gas safety improvement works in the area on Monday (April 20th).

The utility company will start laying new gas mains in Prince of Wales Drive, replacing older metal gas pipes with modern, more durable pipework which is less prone to leaks.

For the initial stage work will be carried out at the junction with Battersea Park Road, before gas engineers continue along Prince of Wales Drive.

To help keep traffic flowing, local diversions will be in place and some bus stops will need to be moved temporarily.

Neil Jackson, National Grid project engineer, said: “We are doing all we can to deliver this essential work as smoothly as possible with minimal disruption to local people and road users.”

Around 4,000 local residents and business have received letters from the gas company informing them of the works. For up to date information about the project people can call National Grid on 0800 096 5678 or visit www.roadworks.org
